Outsourcing
What we do:
All work, all staff, and all housing of data, is kept 100% within Australia. We do not engage in any offshore arrangement, nor do we work with third parties who use offshore arrangements.
What some others do:
Investopedia says:
"Outsourcing is the business practice of hiring a party outside a company to perform services or create goods that were traditionally performed in-house by the company's own employees and staff. Outsourcing is a practice usually undertaken by companies as a cost-cutting measure"
Some Firms will outsource their work to other firms overseas. Some claim that they don't outsource, but have employees who live and work overseas. In both cases, the work is being done by an employee who is not an Australian resident; an employee who is not bound by Australian laws; in particular, our privacy laws.
Your data is not protected if you use a firm that uses overseas workers in any capacity.
You will of course be promised that there are a lot of checks and balances, that your data is protected and that they have never had any issues. However, if there were issues, would they tell you?
And how will your clients feel if they found out that you are sending their private details to a firm that in turn, sends it overseas? Tax File numbers, bank accounts, HIN numbers, all unprotected.
